Declan McKenna 'The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home' by Bunny Kinney
Luke Bather - 24th Jan 2017
“I feel like our generation is lost, I feel like we don’t know where we’re heading.”
Bunny Kinney's video for Declan McKenna is a wry, insightful look at youth and the way they see the world. It flips the prevailing narrative of scorn towards 'millennials' on its head, and asks the generations preceding them to consider the world they have left for their children.
The video for The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home features a bunch of young people accompanying an equally youthful McKenna, trying to make a difference in their own way, and highlights how that compares and contrasts to the previous generation. Using mixed formats to help tell their stories, this documentary clip is a smart, thought-provoking music video. And the theme explored in the video of a younger generation left to cope with the mess of their elders has a heightened relevance as it was released on the day of Trump's inauguration.
