Matilda Cole 'The Clouds' by Amy Becker-Burnett

Rob Ulitski - 7th Dec 2020

The blurred emotions of adolescence are explored in Amy Becker-Burnett's sundrenched promo for Matilda Cole.

The video for The Clouds is a fusion of dreamlike memories and moments of pause, the interconnecting tissue of our early human experience, visualised through profound vignettes depicting interaction and connection.

Shot in an authentic yet heightened style, DoP Joe Douglas captures a beautiful world inhabited solely by the two friends, a world where the characters can discover their true selves in their own safe bubble.

AMY BECKER-BURNETT:

It's very much about that all or nothing mentality during a woman's adolescent years.

"I wanted this video to be a celebration of the teenage experience, something Matilda is living and I'm always nostalgic of. It's very much about that all or nothing mentality during a woman's adolescent years, the extremities of passion and angst.

"I wanted to explore themes of all consuming female friendships girls have growing up... often our first experiences of loyalty, love, hurt, and even lust - this video was very much a kaleidoscope of this.

"It felt right to capture these ideas through a pink hazy aesthetic, something which felt poignant of teen years spent fantasizing and daydreaming about all life's possibilities."
