Karl Benjamin 'Moon' by Samuel Douek
Rob Ulitski - 18th Feb 2021
Samuel Douek sculpts an atmospheric documentation of love in bloom, in his promo for Karl Benjamin's Moon.
Focused purely on performance, the film features the singer-songwriter and his real life love Natty, who is also the subject of the song. The cinematography boasts a heightened aesthetic, elevating the breezy composition and camera movement with pops of vibrant colour and lighting effects. And the stylised greenhouse location is a refreshing and unique backdrop for the concept, which intertwines themes of nature and organic love.
"This song represents the journey of a relationship - the progress that two people can make, together rather than apart," explains Benjamin. "Moon, to me, is about the adventure you go through, to finally arrive at the most intimate moment within the relationship you treasure most.
“I wrote the track about the most important person in my life. Naturally, when working on bringing the video together with Sam, I wanted to include that person. I’m not a fan of fake video love. You can always feel when it’s not genuine. I wanted the video to be as real as the song and its lyrics are to me.”
