Dotan 'Mercy' by Franklin & Marchetta
Rob Ulitski - 21st Apr 2021
Dotan begs for forgiveness in Bjorn Franklin & Johnny Marchetta's poignant promo for Mercy.Â
The video switches between footage of the artist trapped in a gloomy prison cell, with a mysterious narrative unfolding throughout the concept, based around an act of arson.Â
Anchored by a devastatingly effective performance, Dotan displays a real knack for acting, whilst the climax at the end feels worthy of the dramatic build-up.
BJORNÂ & JOHNNY:
An abstract take on forgiveness was the heart of the video.
"This was a personal project for Dotan with a sentiment of 'Forgiving yourself is where the healing begins.'
"Dotan wanted to explore acting for this video, and it was something we were 100% behind. The subject matter was close to Dotan's heart, so we wanted to approach the writing with that in mind first and foremost. An abstract take on forgiveness was the heart of the video, and we feel Dotan's performance carries it right from the beginning to end.
"This was also another chance for us to enhance our narrative with CGI moments that the talented Sam Munnings carefully crafted without a single match being lit.
"P.S - No cute cottages were harmed in the making of this video."
