Anona 'Not Enough' by Ariya Akhavan
Rob Ulitski - 21st July 2021
A forbidden love. A forbidden face... Ariya Akhavan directs an unsettling story about the prohibition of emotion, set against the backdrop of a reimagined America.
In the video, parts of the population have been wiped out in order to establish one true race and face. The narrative focuses on a young woman's failed operation to change her appearance as she searches for her identity in a world that considers her to be not enough.
With a tinge of retrofuturistic nostalgia in the cinematography, and a clever application of practical makeup effects, the video oozes a certain cinematic quality. It also boasts dazzling performances from each of the characters.Â
