One the one hand, Alex Lockett's video for New Jersey band Bleachers looks quite simple and straightforward: it captures the band in performance in a studio rehearsal room. And at the start, as frontman and driving force Jack Antonoff enters the studio, it sounds live. But there's nothing simple about the way this marvellously watchable promo has come together.

Musically, Bleachers are a throwback, with a clear debt to their antecedents, particularly fellow Jersey-ite Bruce Springsteen. And they radiate a similar exuberant energy to Bruce and his E-Street Band in the early days. All this is here - with a palpable sense of collective joy in the band performing their decidedly old school-sounding song Modern Girl.

Lockett puts the viewer right in the middle of it, with an immediacy that actually comes from terrific craft. Brilliantly shot by Ian Barling and edited by Jerry Chia, it's a great experience from first to last. That has a lot to do with Antanoff and his bandmates, as well as the filmmakers, but it feels like the most compelling band performance video for a long time.
