Sinclair Bryant directs a striking promo for Australian-British singer-songwriter and producer Charlotte Plank, diving into a world of mannequins and frozen poses.Â
Leading an all-female team of HoDs - including Chaimuki (DoP), Naomi Feld (set designer), Elle Fell (stylist), Shani Mushington (HMU) and Sidney Williams (editor) - Bryant's video for Candy Stores is an editorial-style vision blurring the line between the artificial and the real.
As the track builds, the magical candy store comes to life, in a surrealist twist on suburban bliss, where the bright polish of a 1950's dreamscape gives way to a darker undercurrent. With Plank as both performer and observer of the phenomenon, the female mannequins begin to stir.
The mannequins were cleverly portrayed by a cast of real people, made possible by the work of the hair and make-up team, who crafted striking looks. It's bold work, elevated by the cast's commitment to their characters and an inspired use of styling and makeup.Â
