Ramez Silyan evokes the name of the band and the song, and channels the cinematic spirit of David Lynch and Gregory Crewdson in this gorgeous, beautifully crafted video for Californian band The Neighbourhood.

Shot by Bobby Pavlovsky, the video for Private takes us into American suburbia in all its ominous perfection. The world of Lynch's Blue Velvet - often referenced in videos, but rarely done as well as it is here.

Silyan's twist on the convention is to have the band perform the song within this dream suburban setting at night - a night so dark that it becomes like a dream.

It is beautiful and beautifully artificial - and it's the band themselves that provide the realism, in the unshowy yet impressive performance. They are determinedly rocking out - and that's what gets the curtains twitching in this eerily private world.
