The first chapter of the new collaboration between Savanah Leaf and Kelsey Lu, ahead of the release of the artist's second album So Help Me God, is an introduction to a sensual and explosive relationship of two women, played by Lu and French actor Garance Marillier (Titane, Raw), within a stark, alien landscape.

Filmed in Lanzarote, the video for Running To Pain touches upon the highs and lows of the pair’s tempestuous relationship, often in long takes on the island’s volcanic slopes, intercut with moments of performance from Lu.

It’s beautifully done, with lovely cinematography by Ryan Marie Helfant, wardrobe styling by Edda Gudmundsdottir and magnetic performances by Lu and Marillier, who have tremendous on-screen chemistry. In her direction, Savanah Leaf shows the skill and sensitivity that made her feature debut Earth Mama so special - and a BAFTA winner.

Lu, a composer as much as a singer-songwriter who has created original scores for film and TV, also wrote the score for Earth Mama. This is an indication that another hugely impressive collaboration between the artist and director is under way.
