Imelda May ‘Call Me’ by Laura Scrivano - now signed to Kode Media
David Knight - 25th Nov 2016
Laura Scrivano, the latest signing over at Kode Media for music video and commercial representation, recently travelled to Paris to shoot an intimate and emotional performance from Imelda May.
Shot entirely on film, it also marks a major change in tone and image for the singer. Gone is the big rockabilly sound and equivalent colourful retro look. This is very different indeed.
LAURA SCRIVANO:
"As soon as I heard Call Me, I knew I wanted to create a clip that was simple, stripped back and cinematic. The tone of the track brought to mind Last Tango in Paris and the heroines of the French New Wave - Anna Karina, Jean Seberg, Bulle Ogier - so it followed to shoot in black and white on Super 16mm. And when I found out that Imelda had actually wrote the song in Paris, it made so much sense to embrace that. So off we hopped onto the Eurostar!
"Shooting on film was so important to the look and feel of this clip. Emotional authenticity is hard to put your finger on but Call Me has is and so does the tone, grain, palette and emotional quality of Super 16. And there is something about the rigour of shooting film that just makes the whole experience on set more magical.
"I'm thrilled to join the directing roster at KODE. I've been an admirer of their work since my time in NYC and I couldn't ask for better producers in terms of supporting me to get back on set only four months after having a baby.
"I can't wait to sink my teeth into some exciting creative and craft compelling commercials, content and music videos.”
