Fickle Friends 'Hard To Be Myself' by Daniel Alexander Harris

Fickle Friends 'Hard To Be Myself' by Daniel Alexander Harris

David Knight - 7th Nov 2017

Daniel Alexander Harris does a take on the Sliding Doors idea for Fickle Friends, showing how things pan out when two versions of the same young man - one super-confident, the other racked with self-doubt - go to attend a cool house-party.

And although they both have their ups and downs, ths confirms that we are always more interested in a flawed underdog than a master of the universe.

DANIEL ALEXANDER HARRIS:

"The split-screen concept for Hard To Be Myself is built off the structure of ‘Expectation’ vs ‘Reality’. From the beginning of the two narratives, I wanted to create a clear point of difference in the behaviour of our lead, Leo, by directing a left-side character that was relentlessly decisive, unapologetically confident and free from social inhibition, versus a right-side character that was uncomfortable in his own skin and nervous.

"Then we surrounded him with the same character-set in the two different realities: one inside the party and, the other, on the doorstep uninvited. These played side by side created a really beautiful juxtaposition.

"We had a humungous shot-list between two videos and a band performance to shoot in one day but it’s definitely my favourite music video shoot day to-date. Thank you to the band and my incredible team for their amazing commitment."
