Au/Ra undergoes a shocking transformation in Sophia Ray’s video for Emoji, the concept inspired by the song's references to our social-media-centric, increasingly virtual world.  

At first it just seems that this is a normal teenage girl getting ready for the day in her bedroom. But then her world begins to 'malfunction', triggering an unravelling of the fantasy: Jamie Lou Stenzel aka Au/Ra starts to peel away the layers of of this synthetic world - to find something even more synthetic lurking underneath.

It's a proper pop video that dares to explore themes of identity, and play out like a dark metaphor for the way people hide behind their online personas.

"I really enjoyed the creative process behind this video, taking inspiration from modern sci-fi cinema greats like Alex Garland, as well as collaborating with Jamie on really crafting the pacing of the story and honing in on her performance style.

"I also enjoyed playing with subliminal nods to the end of the video, through stylistic choices in the art direction of the set - creating a feeling of unease from the start, that viewers might even only subliminally take in before the final twist is revealed at the end of the video."
