The Vamps 'Married In Vegas' by Favourite Colour: Black

Rob Ulitski - 6th Aug 2020

Chris Turner, aka Favourite Colour: Black, directs a luxurious, gold-hued visual for The Vamps' Married In Vegas.

The exuberance and excess of Sin City trickles down into something more abstract in this video, with the band performing in a brutalist space with a woman covered head-to-toe in gold body paint.

Casting aside any usual narrative structure or expectations, the concept instead focuses on striking set pieces and stylish art direction, culminating in a perfect comeback video for the London-based group.

FAVOURITE COLOUR BLACK:

The final concept was to create... a shadowy, abstract memory of a time and place.

"With a song called Married in Vegas, you might expect a neon-lit video shot at the eponymous location. Whether or not that would have been what The Vamps wanted had we not just been emerging from lockdown, you’d have to ask them. But I don’t think so.

"Their brief arrived full of beautiful references of brutalist structures, colourful cherry blossom, gold statues and gorgeous album concept visuals. Over the course of a few Zoom calls, an idea began to emerge.

"The final concept was to create something closer to a shadowy, abstract memory of a time and place, rather than a literal interpretation of the lyrics. And the band were amazing - fantastic, energetic performers - confident in their approach to their new direction."
