Dan French directs a heartfelt promo for rising star Michael Aldag. 

The video for Tonsillitis features all of the mainstays of a pop ballad video - a broken relationship, snapshots of painful memories - yet reframes them with unique imagery and motifs, through symbolism, colour palettes and locations. 

Aldag's performance section boasts a beautifully shot setup as he plays the piano, with unusual camera angles to keep things fresh and authentic.

There's a lot of symbolic imagery which took its motivation from the lyrics.

"This was one of my favourite videos yet. Michael was fully on board with the concept which is always a dream, so we could take it by the reins and go for it.

"There's a lot of symbolic imagery which took its motivation from the lyrics. The rose became a metaphor for their relationship and their love. It's like this omnipresent symbol of the status of their relationship which eventually dies out on his chest.

"It was a lot of fun playing with the technical effects, like the driverless car and the long bed sheet camera pull. These and the tattoo took a lot of trial and error testing beforehand. I was shooting myself and comping tattoos onto my chest and all sorts."
