Sarah Nimmo 'Underground' by Louis Rembges

Rob Ulitski - 2nd May 2025

Louis Rembges directs a marvellous promo for Sarah Nimmo's first outing as a solo artist, dramatising a personal story working at a famous gay pub in East London.

Known as part of UK dance duo Nimmo, Sarah's debut Underground is a pulsating love letter to the London queer scene, where her and her former band made their name. Both the song and video pay particular homage to now-closed legendary Haggerston gay bar The Glory - where Sarah and director Louis Rembges met on her first shift working there. And they have done a brilliant job in bringing that experience to life.

We come in from a striking perspective - Sarah is the hard-pressed bar worker who toils away and gets her moments of respite and pleasure where she can find them. Rembges gives her the immediately identifiable symbol of her difficult job - a tower of empty pint glasses that she carries from scene to scene, cutting between the empty bar with the place as it was it its pomp.

This is very good indeed. Heartfelt, emotional and ultimately, utterly romantic - for a real banger of a track.
