Boy meets girl in an internet chatroom&nbsp;in Enea Colombi's nostalgic take on early days&nbsp;of online encounters for Ceri Wax.The video for Solo 2 sees a boy with an unusual appearance log into a site like Chatroullette in the late Noughties, seeing myriad faces before a deeper connection is made with a girl - who then starts to dance to the camera. Colombi highlights a moment of innocence, and the rarely discussed up-side of internet connectivity, while also hinting at the darker stuff.[imgtoken data:1]"This music video was inspired by one of the digital phenomena that marked an entire generation: the world of random online encounters (Chatroulette + Omegle)," he describes. "These platforms began with noble intentions and eventually collapsed under their own contradictions. For a while, though, they offered a space for escape, for discovery - a place where one could adopt a second identity or simply be themselves."This is the story of a boy with a deformed appearance. Maybe he truly looks this way, or maybe it’s just the way he sees himself—a projection of his own deep sense of inadequacy. Growing up in a small town, relatively isolated from the larger world, it was a revelation how much more there was to discover – how many interesting people and ideas the world had to offer.'In short, the Internet opened the door to a much larger, more diverse, and more vibrant world than I would have otherwise been able to experience; and enabled me to be an active participant in, and contributor to, that world. All of this helped me to learn, and to grow into a more well-rounded person. Moreover, as a survivor of childhood rape, I was acutely aware that any time I interacted with someone in the physical world, I was risking my physical body. The internet gave me a refuge from that fear...'"The music video was made with an extremely limited budget. We recreated the original 2007 Chatroulette interface (now radically changed) with the help of a small team of developers. Thanks to them, we were able to build a casting process involving volunteer participants who became part of this experimental narrative."

Valentin Guiod's gripping&nbsp;Patience (or Sabali in Arabic) with music by DJ Snake - a remix of legendary Malian artists&nbsp;Amadou &amp; Mariam's famous song Sabali -&nbsp;follows Moudou, a&nbsp;young Senegalese man, on his epic&nbsp;journey from his homeland to what he hopes is a better future.Starting from the point of when its decided he must leave his home for the family to survive, Guoid crafts the story of the migrant's clandestine odyssey across country&nbsp;with tremendous skill. It's a personal tale, as the migrant first leaves his Senegalese village for the big city before his journey continues across the desert, and his reality and dreams collide.&nbsp;It's also a widescreen epic, as Moudou experiences moments of terror and temptation, as well as sheer grinding tedium of his journey, before a spectacular climax.It's a brilliant achievement, with a wonderful performance by&nbsp;Alassane Diong as Moudou, as well as Omar Sy as his brother and Anna Thiandoum as his love. Algerian-French director Lyna Zerrouki delivers an expansive vision of the meaning of exile in her beautifully crafted video for Palestinian singer-songwriter and rapper Saint Levant.Described as 'the artistic response to our pain', the video for Exile takes place in an huge&nbsp;empty space, dominated by an ice blue backdrop. Blue represents the cold sensation that comes with being forced into exile, far away from his warm, colourful home.But this is also a world which provides a creative space where the artist can perform and collaborate with his orchestra - which happens in the latter part of the video.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;&nbsp;"Aesthetically, I&nbsp;wanted to create a different world, a surreal world in which art is the solution," says Lyna Zerrouki. Thibault-Théodore directed a sensual and subversive promo for the iconoclastic French singer Yseult.&nbsp;The video for Bad Boy, which came out late last year, explores eroticism, beauty and surrender in genuinely breathtaking fashion. Rapper Ichon co-stars as Yseult's&nbsp;partner in an affair which involves&nbsp;different aspects of fetish practice in sexual life,&nbsp;the video bares all in both a physical and emotional sense, and is handled with due care by the director.&nbsp;Beautifully shot by DoP David Foulkes, the cinematography feels very much traditional in its technique, but contemporary in its boldness and attitude. And it all leads to a staggering moment of artistic expression and trust by Yseult in the final section of the video.&nbsp;&nbsp;Translating raw emotion into a true piece of art, the creative team have pulled off a wonderful project that elevates the downtempo track.

Zhang &amp; Knight's video for&nbsp;Meryem Aboulouafa establishes a distinctive mood all of its own - part-Arabic, part-surrealist - to create a wonderfully evocative video for the Moroccan singer-songwriter's song Deeply.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The staging&nbsp;is a stylish set, based on an architecture&nbsp;of courtyards and quadrangles found in North Africa and across the Mediterranean,&nbsp;rendered in serene pastel shades. But within the quadrangle, crowded with people, there is another square&nbsp; - a hole into which dancers teeter and then fall...&nbsp;&nbsp;Aboulouafa is the elegant centre in this haunting&nbsp;scenario, who eventually looks into the hole and reveals its otherworldly secret. The first video by Hannah Palumbo and Linden Feng&nbsp;- aka Zhang &amp; Knight - since joining Birth for French representation is one of their most exquisite.&nbsp;

Elly Jackson, aka La Roux, makes her way through an imaginary game of video game golf, in&nbsp;Valentin Guiod's video for Automatic Driver.&nbsp;Swapping out the futuristic sets and styling for a slice of video game nostalgia, Jackson&nbsp;plays a golfer in a surreal virtual world full of fluorescent rocks and terrain. As she adventures deeper into this environment, her surroundings melt and glitch into a rainbow of neon colours, creating an effect that is as striking as it is unusual.&nbsp;La Roux's sound has matured greatly since bursting onto the scene with Going In For The Kill back in the Noughties,&nbsp;and there is a certain confidence and self-assuredness this time around. Not one to conform to pop industry conventions, Jackson has always been a unique artist on the fringe of mainstream, and this is a very promising return for the artist.&nbsp;
