Andrea Arnold makes a very rare appearance as a music video director - possibly her debut -&nbsp;for old friends Sleaford Mods team-up with artist and performer Sue Tompkins, in the familiar territory of the Dartford estate where she shot her seminal Oscar-winning short film&nbsp;Wasp.Shot by long-term collaborator Robbie Ryan - the DoP on her acclaimed features Red Road, Fish Tank, Wuthering Heights, American Honey and Bird, the&nbsp;film for No Touch, shot on a mix of 16mm and 35mm, features the duo performing the track alongside locals and dancers in the falling leaves of British November.The video also features Sue Tompkins, visual artist and&nbsp;former lead singer of Glasgow rock band Life Without&nbsp;Buildings, who becomes the latest female vocal foil to Sleaford's frontman Jason Williamson, following the likes of Billy Nomates, Amy Taylor from Amyl &amp; The Sniffers&nbsp;and,&nbsp;most recently,&nbsp;Gwendoline Christie.[imgtoken data:1]“I had such a lovely day making the video with the Sleafords and Sue Tompkins," says Arnold, who featured both the Sleafords' track Jolly&nbsp;Fucker and a cameo by Jason Williamson in&nbsp;her latest film Bird - also shot in Dartford."The shoot reminded me of my days out to Margate with my family. The world of Lynch's Blue Velvet - often referenced in videos, but rarely done as well as it is here.Silyan's twist on the convention is to have the band perform the song within this dream suburban setting at night - a night so dark that it becomes like a dream.It is beautiful and beautifully artificial - and it's the band themselves that provide the realism, in the unshowy yet impressive performance. Fiona Jane Burgess directs the latest video&nbsp;for The Last Dinner Party in a real departure from their canon up to this point: a poignant, character-driven&nbsp;short film with no appearance by the band.The promo for The Scythe follows an elderly couple (played by Richard Durden and Eileen Nicholas) on a quiet journey through the English countryside, focussing on a series of scenes on the journey. Without a backstory or dramatic arc, it invites the viewer to fill in the narrative details themselves - and find&nbsp;beauty in the ordinary and unspoken.[imgtoken data:1]“The Scythe is a song about love, and so this film is a testament to that," explains&nbsp;Fiona Jane Burgess.&nbsp;"The band came to me with an idea about seeing an older couple on a journey, and I thought that was refreshing since we live in such a youth-obsessed culture."I also love road movies, so it was fun to have the opportunity to make one! The actors were fantastic and brought so much energy to the screen despite two very long and demanding shoot days."The shoot itself was an adventure, driving from place to place discovering hidden gems with a brilliant crew and meeting locals along the way (some of whom are in the film!) I worked with cinematographer Mika Altskan and we shot on 35mm 4-perf which was a dream."So many people helped bring this film to life and I'm so grateful to The Last Dinner Party and their team for being such amazing collaborators.”

UK Music Video Awards 2025: Kodak return as sponsors of Best Production Company

Short film competition Yarns has revealed the unsigned filmmakers selected to bring their visions to life under the competition's bold theme this year.The&nbsp;finalists are the director/producer duo Ciara O'Rourke &amp; Jack Clarke, Tom Tennant and&nbsp;Naomi Pallas, who have been selected to make films on the subject of DISINFO.&nbsp;The not-for-profit competition organised by Homespun -&nbsp;the new talent division of Stitch Editing -&nbsp;that champions emerging UK talent with full creative and post-production support to transform their ideas into fully realised short films, received a record number of submissions for films tackling this year's theme. The three finalists were then chosen from a shortlist of ten submissions.Each finalist will receive £2,000 funding and post-production assistance from Homespun, and post partners Sine Audio Post, Absolute, Freefolk and Nineteentwenty. The competition is also backed by&nbsp;Kodak, APA&nbsp;and Sine Audio Post.Ciara O’Rourke &amp; Jack Clarke will bring their twist on the end of the world to their short&nbsp;Don’t Believe A Word I Say. O'Rourke is a director and award-winning production designer from Doncaster, known for her surreal, stylistic and heartfelt visual storytelling. A BAFTA mentee with a growing reputation, she excels in finding magic in the rubble.&nbsp;Clarke is a Salford-based producer whose work spans indie features, investigative docs and grassroots culture. His work spotlights the grit, grief and brilliance of everyday lives.Tom Tennant's comedy short&nbsp;Angling For Love&nbsp;will explore the fishier sides of modern dating. He is a&nbsp;Somerset-born up and coming filmmaker whose wit is as sharp as his eye. Often working with his brother Theo, his previous documentary&nbsp;Frontier Town won a BAFTA Cymru Award.&nbsp;Naomi Pallas's documentary How To Sell A Girl will dive into a dark new online phenomenon.&nbsp;She is a documentary producer and director from Essex whose freelance work spans BBC, Channel 4, Sky and Amazon — but she’s just as passionate about her independent explorations of technology, folklore and the natural world. Her latest short Big Cat, currently prowling the festival circuit, traces the hunt for a black panther said to roam the Glastonbury festival site.“We were really impressed by the originality of this year’s finalist pitches," says&nbsp;Tim Hardy, co-owner of Homespun.&nbsp;"Each one brought a distinct perspective to the brief, and it was clear they were thinking ambitiously about their shorts. Yarns announces finalists for 2025 competition on subject of DISINFO

For the returning Maribou State, Brazilian filmmaker&nbsp;Giordano Maestrelli tells a story of lost love by employing some of the oldest techniques in cinema within a bold new structure.&nbsp;The subject of the film for All I Need is the complexity of a broken relationship, told through parallel timelines. At the centre of the story is a couple - their past life unfolds through fragments and the present plays out in the background where their lost love echoes. And&nbsp;to allow the flashback story of the couple's love affair to coexist within the present, Maestrelli&nbsp;built a custom zoetrope device inspired by early motion picture pioneer&nbsp;Eadweard Muybridge.In this meticulous undertaking the director first shot the story on 16mm film, then printed into more than 2500 still frames, and re-sequenced it through the custom circular machine in a stop-motion-like technique. Shooting over 23 hours, thousands of delicate frames were replaced one by one while a crew member manually turned the machine at a millimetric degree, and another captured the action.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;The zoetrope enables one narrative to take place inside a contained, looping environment, which set out to resemble the way unprocessed emotions often linger. Meanwhile, behind it, the same setting appears as a ghostly representation of what is no more.&nbsp;With a visual language rooted in early cinema but a vision firmly fixed on today’s music video aesthetics,&nbsp;All I Need&nbsp;is a technically-daring love letter for the song that&nbsp;features on Maribou State’s latest album&nbsp;Hallucinating Love, their first since a multiple-year long hiatus following bandmember Chris Davids’ rare and debilitating brain illness.&nbsp;The result is a mesmerising and haunting&nbsp;blend of cinematic craftsmanship, memories and emotion.

HAIM return with a sumptuous video by Camille Summers Valli for the first single from the sisters' first album since 2020.It's Summers Valli's first promos since her acclaimed work for METTE in 2023 (including Mama's Eyes, winner of Video of the Year at the UKMVAs). As with those for METTE, the director employs her considerable powers here to draw the viewer into a powerful and intimate experience with the band's&nbsp;lead singer Alana Haim.The video for Relationships brings us into the world of Alana and her sisters - and into the euphoria of Alana's affair with her lover, played by Drew Starkey. This is portrayed at a cinematic level consistent with a movie or high quality TV drama, and&nbsp;HAIM are clearly comfortable in this territory. After all, they have been regular collaborators with&nbsp;Paul Thomas Anderson and Jake Schreier.But there is nothing in the sister's fine canon of music videos which is quite as frank and sensual as this, nor does it forget its function as a music video. The effect is stunning.&nbsp;
