"In response to a viral LBC caller Darren who you hear sampled in the chorus breaks, it is a song about resistance, community and standing fearlessly against racial hatred whilst reflecting on how marginalised communities have built this city into the radiant and alive patchwork it is today."

Having recently announced the filmmakers selected to make films on the subject of 'Disinfo' - this year's&nbsp;brief - Yarns has now revealed the experienced professionals&nbsp;who will mentor the filmmakers during the process of making their films.The mentors are director&nbsp;Georgi Banks-Davies, writer-director Luke Brookner and writer, director and producer Katie Lambert. From perfecting scripts to navigating post-production, the mentors have each been assigned a project, to challenge, champion&nbsp;and elevate the shorts being developed for this year’s timely and provocative brief - set by Homespun, the rising talent&nbsp;division of Stitch Editing.&nbsp;Georgi Banks-Davies is a BAFTA winning director. Her TV debut was as lead director on&nbsp;I Hate Suzie&nbsp;written by Lucy Prebble, and starring Billie Piper. She was the lead director on the sci-fi adaptation&nbsp;Paper Girls&nbsp;for Amazon, and Greek God opus&nbsp;Kaos&nbsp;for Netflix. She is currently in post production on the&nbsp;The Night Manager 2&nbsp;for BBC/Amazon, of which she directed the whole series. She has also directed many festival-screened shorts, most notably&nbsp;Garfield,&nbsp;selected for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Georgi is also a successful commercials director - represented by Rogue Films. She joins Yarns to mentor duo Ciara O’Rourke and Jack Clarke, bringing her experience in both realism and speculative fiction to their end-of-the-world fable&nbsp;Don’t Believe A Word I Say.“Yarns is one of the most exciting film competitions out there, throwing a light on new voices and talent, and giving them the platform to shine," she says.&nbsp;"It goes without saying I'm proper chuffed to be a part of the scheme, supporting a brilliant filmmaker to achieve their vision. He studied screenwriting at MET film school, and since then he has honed his skills and creative voice over the years as a writer in the creative departments of various creative agencies and brands, including Brothers and Sisters and Beats by Dre. As a director, Luke searches for the intimacy and honesty in the small moments and often showcases a sensitivity and rawness, achieved by his obsession to capture a sense of naturalism in whatever he makes. He’ll be bringing his sharp eye for performance and comedy while mentoring Tom Tennant for his fishy rom-com&nbsp;Angling For Love.Katie Lambert is half of MrMr films and loves a good time. As a writer and director, her interests lie in exploring female trouble and referencing every Lady Gaga music video ever made. With MrMr she has produced award-winning work globally, including that time she tried to sneak onto Usher’s private jet (denied). She’ll be mentoring Naomi Pallas as she dives into a dark corner of the internet in her documentary short&nbsp;How To&nbsp;Sell A Girl."I love Homespun!" says Lambert.&nbsp;"What an exciting competition. Short film competition Yarns has revealed the unsigned filmmakers selected to bring their visions to life under the competition's bold theme this year.The&nbsp;finalists are the director/producer duo Ciara O'Rourke &amp; Jack Clarke, Tom Tennant and&nbsp;Naomi Pallas, who have been selected to make films on the subject of DISINFO.&nbsp;The not-for-profit competition organised by Homespun -&nbsp;the new talent division of Stitch Editing -&nbsp;that champions emerging UK talent with full creative and post-production support to transform their ideas into fully realised short films, received a record number of submissions for films tackling this year's theme. The three finalists were then chosen from a shortlist of ten submissions.Each finalist will receive £2,000 funding and post-production assistance from Homespun, and post partners Sine Audio Post, Absolute, Freefolk and Nineteentwenty. The competition is also backed by&nbsp;Kodak, APA&nbsp;and Sine Audio Post.Ciara O’Rourke &amp; Jack Clarke will bring their twist on the end of the world to their short&nbsp;Don’t Believe A Word I Say. O'Rourke is a director and award-winning production designer from Doncaster, known for her surreal, stylistic and heartfelt visual storytelling. A BAFTA mentee with a growing reputation, she excels in finding magic in the rubble.&nbsp;Clarke is a Salford-based producer whose work spans indie features, investigative docs and grassroots culture. His work spotlights the grit, grief and brilliance of everyday lives.Tom Tennant's comedy short&nbsp;Angling For Love&nbsp;will explore the fishier sides of modern dating. He is a&nbsp;Somerset-born up and coming filmmaker whose wit is as sharp as his eye. Often working with his brother Theo, his previous documentary&nbsp;Frontier Town won a BAFTA Cymru Award.&nbsp;Naomi Pallas's documentary How To Sell A Girl will dive into a dark new online phenomenon.&nbsp;She is a documentary producer and director from Essex whose freelance work spans BBC, Channel 4, Sky and Amazon — but she’s just as passionate about her independent explorations of technology, folklore and the natural world. Her latest short Big Cat, currently prowling the festival circuit, traces the hunt for a black panther said to roam the Glastonbury festival site.“We were really impressed by the originality of this year’s finalist pitches," says&nbsp;Tim Hardy, co-owner of Homespun.&nbsp;"Each one brought a distinct perspective to the brief, and it was clear they were thinking ambitiously about their shorts. Dan French recreates the early 70s pop promo for Elton John's Step Into Christmas, and then imagines the almighty&nbsp;chaos that occured behind the scenes on the shoot&nbsp;- with the 1973 Elton played by actress and model Cara Delevingne.The hugely entertaining&nbsp;video&nbsp;reproduces shots from Elton's studio performance in the original visual - featuring&nbsp; Delevingne&nbsp;as an uncanny facsmile of glam-era Elton, plus doppelgangers of his band - while adding the story of the production team frantically attempting to add some festive flavour to proceedings.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Despite the addition of a festive feather boa, balloons and confetti, chaos reigns as they wrangle an escaped turkey, fail to book a real reindeer (and find a donkey instead) and tackle a deranged fan who storms the set, all whilst Delevingne mirrors Elton’s choicest dance moves and iconic facial expressions from the original promo.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On it's release over 50 years ago, Step Into Christmas failed to trouble the UK Top 20, but it's stepped up in seasonal stature in recent years. The song has charted&nbsp;each December since 2011, and last year it was certified Triple Platinum, 50 years after its release. And it's proved to be too hot for&nbsp;YouTube...&nbsp;The video for Ecstasy Homosexuality is a celebration of queer liberation, featuring a stirring narrative between former and current lovers, who get away together in a house in the country for a summer break.&nbsp;Blending&nbsp;queer culture, performance and art into something absolutely captivating, the video makes use of mixed media (live action, paintings and vintage photography) to give a universal, anachronistic feel to the concept.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The central narrative between the main characters is also hugely engaging, teetering on the edge of something explosive and visceral, even in moments of silence.&nbsp;Jumping between naturalistic, raw setups and hyper-stylised vignettes, Galster's direction feels elevated and inspired throughout, capturing unique sides of the LGBT+ experience with flair.&nbsp;It's stunning work, and although it has been&nbsp;taken down from YouTube, it's still available in its full glory on Vimeo...&nbsp;

Sports Team return with a video directed by Dora Paphides made in the spirit of pop promos from the 1970s and '80s.The single I'm In Love (Subaru) marks a change in a musical direction for the erstwhile indie-rock outfit to an 80s-tinged pop-soul sound - replete with Spandau Ballet-style saxophone. The studio-set video duly pays homage to the period, with vocalist Alex Rice centre-stage amid his ST bandmates and a crucial prop - an era-appropriate&nbsp;Subaru car.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The video plays with light and shadow to recreate the look of videos of the times, whilst elevating certain aspects to modern day standards."Working closely with the band, and [DoP] Tasha Duursma, we looked at a lot of Roxy Music vids and Spandau Ballet," reveals Paphides.&nbsp;"We wanted to make a homage to music videos of this era - from artists who may have been inspired by the Blitz club - but with some punchier, editorial, contemporary details."It needed to be part-editorial, part-music promo. [And] it was essential for us to shoot this with the types of grip/rigs that would’ve existed at the time for a real sense of authenticity."

Dora Paphides shows again that she's a young director with a real talent for this pop video directing game with a pulsating promo for Ella Eyre.The video for Ain't No Love That Blind - Paphides' second for Ella Eyre - is a fully focussed showcase&nbsp;of Eyre's talents as a singer and performer - the song recalling her vocal contributions to those early Rudimental tracks - and everything comes together to showstopping effect. Paphides and the production team provide Ella with a platform to display her tigerish personality, with terrific camerawork and styling,&nbsp;and an&nbsp;intriguing 'car cemetery' location.And perhaps most notably of all, the feisty performance is abetted by an utterly fearsome edit by Sara Faulkner. LOOSE follows up the superb live visual for Fred Again..'s collab with Lil Yachty with an equally impressive document of the producer's encounter with Anderson .Paak for Places To Be.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This intimate and intense jam session was shot in one take in sun-soaked Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, and there is a delightful sense of capturing magic in a bottle, as both artists do their stuff.&nbsp;With the pair enthusiastically jumping between instruments - including two drumkits - it's a brilliant job of camerawork throughout. And then the&nbsp;natural magic in the room is elevated further when its revealed that Anderson's drumkit is on a platform that rotates, and he performs a 360˚&nbsp;drum solo.[imgtoken data:1]
